The Fast Ethernet Managed Media Converters are designed to answer a specific need from Telcos for reliable LAN interconnection applications. The Managed Media Converters do not limit the transmitted frame size (for example, they can deliver CISCO ISL protocols). On the LAN side, the media converters have one copper 100BaseTX interface. On the extension side, the BFC-2000 series has one fiber optic interface and optional fiber optic interface which will serve as a backup redundant link for mission-critical applications. 

The converters include an SNMP agent and are out-of-band managed via SLIP interfaces. Managed Media Converters also have an optional internal switch to transfer between an AC or a -48VDC power supply. The AC power supply is available with redundancy. The Managed Media Converter can convert Fast Ethernet multi-mode to single-mode.
